Helpful not Harmful is an interactive opportunity for participants to engage in discussions that create spaces of healing vs conversations that lead to additional harm. When we are exploring new learning through personal interactions, trainings, and intercultural coaching, truth telling becomes an essential part of the work, both for those coming to learn as well as those who are presenting. Participants will watch clips of presenters, describe the speakers, and then "think, pair, share" with one another around how to decenter whiteness, abilities, and other dominant identities when mediating between multiple cultures. The objectives of this workshop are for participants to define what a dominant identity is, identify harmful language associated with centering dominant perspectives, affirm people with non-dominant identities to speak their truths, and teach all participants to create accountable spaces.
