Jessica Coleman (colem249@umn.edu), LICSW, received her BSW in Social Work from Metropolitan State University in 2014, and her MSW at the University of Minnesota in 2016. Throughout her career, Jessica has worked with youth and adults in school and community settings, including as an adult rehabilitation mental health services (ARHMS), a children’s therapeutic services and support (CTSS) worker, womens advocate and an individual mental health practitioner. In addition, Jessica spent the majority of her post-MSW experience within the child welfare system in direct practice and as a supervisor. These work experiences served as a catalyst for Jessica's research interest, in particular, her focus on child welfare systemic oppression. Specifically, Jessica is interested in the intersecting impact of child welfare disparities in policy and practice and its impacts on the socialization of Black children and youth, along with their development. Lastly, Jessica has been volunteering within the local community in various capacities to fight against racism and disparities. One notable volunteering position she currently holds as a HEAL Council member, which focuses on health disparities within various communities with diverse backgrounds.
