Speaker Bio
LaKesha’s background and experience in working with children, youth, and families spans nearly 20 years and includes currently serving as the Middle School Success Coordinator at Washington Middle School for Seattle University via the Center for Community Engagement. She has worked as a Program Manager, Education Coordinator at a childcare facility, a preschool teacher, milieu counselor in a group home, an education advocate, and as a literacy intervention specialist. She has worked with PTAs and volunteered at a school designed to work with children and families who were experiencing homelessness. Her work has primarily been with children, youth, and families that are members of ‘marginalized’ groups. She believes in meeting children and families where they are, capitalizing on their strengths, and helping to develop tools to address challenges. In addition, LaKesha has experience working toward the healing of historical harms and traumas. LaKesha enjoys facilitating workshops and trainings that support deeper understanding and appreciation of diversity and identity and promote healing. She strongly believes that helping children, youth, and adults embrace themselves while developing a sincere appreciation of and for others is a vital part of our being.


LaKesha is an experienced youth and family advocate, and warrior for racial and social justice and liberation. She currently works for Seattle University in the Center for Community Engagement as the Washington Middle School Site Manager, overseeing the mentoring programs the University offers to scholars at this partner school. In addition, LaKesha has engaged in work leading to the healing of historical traumas and their legacies. As a result of her commitment to healing and liberation, she recently founded LK Consulting & Coaching. In this role LaKesha has the honor of partnering with organizations to bring engaging workshops centering healing as a vital component of renewal, transformation, and liberation. She also partners with individuals to support their personal work on their journeys to heal, renew, and transform.
LaKesha envisions individuals and communities living in wholeness. She values, among other things, compassion, relationship, and truth. LaKesha believes strongly in the power of story, connection, and shared learning. She enjoys facilitating workshops and trainings that support deeper understanding and appreciation of self and others and that promote and aid healing.
LaKesha is blessed to be the mother of an amazing young woman, daughter of a phenomenal Mother, and descendant of beautifully resilient ancestors (and lives her life seeking to be a good ancestor). She enjoys reading, writing, baking, knitting, taking walks, and being near the water.
