Speaker Bio
Ian Houston is a graduate of the University of West Georgia with a bachelor of science in Sociology with a minor in Africana Studies. Ian went on to earn his graduate degree from Georgia State University in Social Foundations of Education with a focus on youth-led school reform. As part of his graduate project, Ian founded True-Liif, a youth-centered, family organization designed to act as a bridge and support network for underrepresented communities. Ian is currently completing his application to pursue his Ph.D. in one of three areas: Educational Theory & Practice, Sociology, or Educational Administration and Policy. He works full-time as a career coach and instructor for the University of West Georgia.
Ian's primary passions are racial equity, Black empowerment through education, political engagement, and business development, and dismantling the myths surrounding white supremacy (how it functions in real time). Ian examines whiteness, white privilege, and white supremacy using Critical Race Theory and Critical Whiteness Studies.
