Most people have heard their parents, grandparents, and others say things that didn’t make sense – e.g. a bad apple don’t fall far from the tree, if you feelin’ froggy leap. In this session we will have a conversation about the colloquialism’s we have heard and the meaning of them.
In this session, the author will talk with participants about African American sayin’s in her book that she heard her father and others say in their conversation’s. Things Daddy and ‘nim taught me is the assembling of wisdom. Each of the wise sayin’s or colloquialisms are filled with life lessons, stories, and questions for you to consider. What you will learn and hear about are words that helped guide, shape and inspire the author throughout her life course. You will hear words or sayin’s that you may have heard as a young child. Words that stuck with you and may have even challenged you. Each of the sayin’s are laden with meaning. The life lessons are as necessary today as they were in the past. So much of what is in this book is a part of what elders share in the hopes that their wisdom is given as a gift to the world and that someone is listening and living it out. Believing in the richness each voice brings to any conversation, situation or need Ms. Bob-e seeks to engage all in conversations leading to the extraction of knowledge, wisdom and reflection of self and others.
