Name
RJCA (Restorative Justice Community Action)
Description
Restorative Justice Community Action (RJCA) grew out of the Central City Neighborhood Partnership Community Conference Program which was established in the 1990’s to address misdemeanor crimes in the core neighborhoods of Downtown Minneapolis to become a 501©3 nonprofit in 2005. Providing over 20 years of restorative justice work in the Twin Cities, we typically work with juveniles and adults who have made a decision that resulted in a criminal charge and interested in addressing the harm via a restorative process. Restorative justice helps repair relationships caused by harm and offers participants a second chance by allowing them to avoid a criminal record. Our process treats each participant as a valuable, contributing member of the community.
RJCA works to increase the pool of skilled community restorative practitioners, expand anti-racism programming, and meet the increased demand for restorative justice as a response to the criminal justice system and policing. Our programs are positioned to achieve these goals by providing opportunities for all members, especially those in marginalized communities, to have access and feel empowered to create positive change in the community. We continue to focus on providing a community-based approach to criminal prosecution with the mission of fostering individual growth while strengthening communities through restorative justice practices.
