I plan on opening the workshop with an interactive informational role play/skit where I use the role of “radio show host” to first start with an ice breaker for the group and then familiarize the attendees with both the music and the theory being discussed. The attendees will be able to interact with me and the content as “callers” for this part of the workshop as we begin to talk about the theory behind the idea of characters, stereotypes and Black language and communication. There will be sound and visuals for this portion. After that, we will break off into teams each with a different prompt and break down the importance and possible impacts on growing BIPOC students. After coming together and discussing group ideas, we will close with a free write / reflection on solutions, goals, and takeaways for the future of education in the US.
