Leora’s currently focuses on the US-Mexico border region and Latin America. She is also a part-time lecturer at the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy & Practice, teaching in the Global Social Development Practice Program. Leora has worked as a psychotherapist for survivors of torture arriving to the US as refugees and asylum-seekers, and she provides expert psychological evaluations for asylum cases in the US. Currently, Leora’s work focuses on secondary trauma support and resilience-building for front-line service providers and advocates, and the development of service delivery models for migrant populations in the border region. Leora served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Chongqing, China and has worked with communities impacted by violence in South and Central America. Leora holds a masters in clinical social work and international social welfare from the University of Chicago and a bachelors in Spanish from Denison University.
