To open the conference, we are delighted to have as our keynote Hmong-American writer, filmmaker, and teacher, Kao Kalia Yang.

Following Kao Kalia Yang’s keynote, we will have a discussion that will be moderated by Mala Thao, co-emcee and FREC Member with the following group discussion members.

Group Discussion Members

Saturday, 9 AM to 11:15 AM  (Central Standard Time)

On Saturday we will have a performance by JUSTmove, David Scherer and Joe Davis, who are performers, educators, storytellers and trainers who facilitate racial justice and healing through the arts.

Emcees

Mala Thao and William Moore, FREC Volunteers, will emcee and facilitate discussions on both days of the conference.

Blessing/Singing & Drumming

To open the conference with a blessing, we are honored to have Charlene A. Day-Castro, a 2nd degree midewin leader from the Bois Forte Band of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. Charleen has been involved with traditional teachings and ceremonial work most of her life, a member of the Three Fires Midewin Society.

Returning once again to instill a sense of belonging through their singing and drumming are Desirae Desnomie and Robin Bedeau who make up Midnite Express
